MACC 1st EGM

First and foremost, I really applaud the persistence of you(s) in looking up this blog from time to time despite my constant absence without notice. I am truly humbled by your interest with my work. I appreciate it and wish I could tell it to you in person if I knew who you were.

I am back this time to share with you details of my upcoming show and some updates. Since my last entry in March, where I said I was making a 'comeback' in comedy, much has happened for me. The 'comeback' went awesome and comedy has been on a roll for me. I've been getting/doing shows after shows. One of the highlights was last month in August where I shared the stage with international names.

I performed for The Comedy Club KL alongside UK star Paul Chowdhry and Aussie's old timer Garry Who and what an experience it has been. I have learnt so much and it was my first time doing comedy 3 nights in a row.

I'm also now part Malaysia's (and I believe most of Asia) stand up comedy collective group known as Young Comedians of Malaysia (YCOM). We are a collection of comedians who share experiences and formulate a platform for people interested to give comedy a go.

Since March, comedy has been kind to me. Love, not so much. Still flipping through the manuals, learning how to suture, and nurse a broken soul.

Anyways, my next show would be a really interesting one! Its the first show I play a part in planning and organising and basically things together. And I will have 6 shows this time around performing with none other than local legend Douglas Lim, as well as a dear friend of mine and a extremely funny one, Chi Ho.

Please have a look at the flyer we have pieced together:

Coming back to comedy.

I have a rather peculiar yet pointless announcement to make: - After two fulll years of absence, I am finally ready to make a comeback in comedy.

*cue war background music*
Having risen like a phoenix, travelled like a shooting star, and falling like hot cakes...I am back! At least I think I am.

To those who have been constantly asking me to 'tell you a joke', you better be there.

Details

Date: 5th March 2009 (Thursday)
Venue: Little Havana, off Changkat Bukit Bintang.
Time: Starts at 8.30pm but you have to come before 8.30pm
Tickets: Pay RM20 at the door

I won't be the only one performing that night. There will be 6 performers, myself included, and some of these guys are crazy hilarious that have been doing it for years.

Come BEFORE 8.30pm because the place will be jammed pack, and you may be asked to sit on the floor. (this is not a joke). For girls who are interested to come late, wear a skirt, it gives the comedians a better view.

Come watch what comedy is like in Malaysia. Trust us, its not like what you read on the front pages of your newspaper.

This is the map to Little Havana:

So this coming Thursday...

Watch me perform!

Laugh out loud...

And if you're over 60, die laughing!

Sound then sight.

“Never judge a book by its cover.” I think the quote is imperfect, if I had to believe it, can I also say that I should then buy every single book? Sorry, I digressed.

I was just wondering, if we judge people on first impressions, it is usually by sight, right? How then does a blind man make his first impression? I am quite curious to know. Do they also judge us based on the first sound or the intonations?

When you make first impressions by means of sight, these first impressions is often challenged by speech or in other words, sound. For that very reason, one of my favorite quote is always, “light travels faster than sound, which is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak.”

I also believe that, people who are unable to speak their mind, could possibly have nothing in their mind to begin with. The same goes with people who do not listen. How is one able to speak when one doesn’t listen what one hears.

Judging people from first impressions are imminent. If someone asks you, what do you think of that person (someone you had just saw), and forced a story out of you, you’d definitely be able to tell one despite it being entirely out of guesswork. True? True.

Haha, I answered that for you.

Your schemata tell you certain things about people and most of the time, it is someway true. I think it’s natural to admit accuracy than it is to admit a fiasco. Anyways, it is not wrong to pass judgment from first impressions. Actually, you can’t not do it.

So, judge me all you want, but when I speak you better be listening.

Armpits: Shave it, pluck it, or Veet it?

I write this actually wanting to know what works best - shaving, plucking, waxing or waxing cream?

However, having touch the taboo topic of fuzz (commonly among men), why not just explore it a little further. I still want your answer on what works best though.

I don't understand the social perception of armpit hair.

For some odd reason, I find that women seem to have garnered a perception that hair-free armpits by means of 'removing armpit hair' belongs to them. Lets face it, little 'dust bunnies' of hair to the involuntary dread locks...the most of you DO have armpit hair.

But when it comes to men, it becomes slightly more a problem. Let me first ask, what is your general perception of armpit hair? I would assume that its not favourable since the general idea is to get rid of it for the ladies. For the men, well, the bulk of us pretend its not there and no one sees it but who are we kidding? One other funny observation is that women seem to be okay with men having underarm hair because it is 'masculine' but tend not to focus on it. As far as I'm educated, 'masculine' traits of a men is often discussed and noticed but why the selective preference? No one ignores a six pack or a strong jaw.

Anyways...

Having established the general perception of armpit hair, what then would be the ladies' acumen of men who do rid themselves of underarm hair? First answer I got was, "eeuw, gay."

I think to a certain extent it is fair in this context to equate men's underarm hair with women's facial hair. Its the same, there are still a lot of women who have a moustache (like it or not), just as there are also a lot of guys who do not have underarm hair. Why do women not want facial hair? Because its unsightly, the same goes for guys who don't want underarm hair. Ok, maybe lady's stache is a little to extreme. Let's just assume its leg hair or maybe forearm hair.

Think about it, swimmers, body builders, power lifters, models, cross dressers; these are professions that do not recommend underarm hair. It is just unhygienic especially for a swimmer isn't it? Bet you wouldn't like finding a strand of hair in the mouthful of water you accidently choked on.

I believe with the change of time comes the change of perceptions. At one point, women had underarm fuzz and to be frank some were as thick as a double scoop milkshake. It was acceptable then...but could this day and age bring forth men who do not want armpit hair?

Think about it, men are starting to wear pants as tight as girls, trust me, tights will be prominent in the near future. Look what the advancement of time/fashion has brought us, a drag like Pete Wentz, a closet unicorn like Kanye West, and a TV series like Gossip Girls.

I believe one day men and women will settle for a universal look. That is probably why, people always saw the coming of 'robots' to rule the world huh.

hmm.
